The structure of the MITP programme is as unique as its content, with delivery being centered on two (2) components – academic and practical. Academic Component
Practical ComponentThe Practical component of the programme involves two (2) elements:- (a) Study Tour (b) Internship The Study Tour, organized in collaboration with the Virtual Institute of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), is an integral part of the programme, which provides students with an unparalleled opportunity to see “trade in action”. Students have access to meetings at the World Trade Organization (WTO), and UNCTAD, and attend lectures at various international organizations in Geneva, including the WIPO, ITC, ICTSD, IOM, ILO and South Centre to name a few. In addition, students are also afforded the opportunity to interface with Ambassadors representing the region’s trade policy. The Internship component for the programme is a maximum of three (3) months in duration and students are assigned to a relevant national government department/agency, regional or International Organization or NGO. Internships are related to the students’ Research Papers. Internships are generally not paid assignments; however, some agencies may provide a stipend to the student. Students, who are awarded OAS scholarships and choose to return to their home country to pursue the internship, should note that the scholarship would be discontinued once they are receiving a monthly salary from an organization. To continue receiving scholarship funds, proof of non-receipt of payment will be required. This information will be forwarded to the donor agency. |
